Hi guys, I’m actually upset with myself that I didn’t blog at all in the month of June. But rather than complain I’ve decided to move forward and do something about it now. So for those lovely truth seekers that didn’t get a word from me, I apologize. I’m back now!  I also promise to post on the 10th 20th and 30th of every month starting from this month of July (I missed the 10th I know ). I may post on other days in between too, but those dates are definite. Yes more dedication.

Sooo moving on

For the longest time now I’ve been compelled to share on our spiritual GROWTH as Christians. I realize that a lot of people tend to stay at the same level for years and years after giving their life to Christ—Born Again …but that’s not Gods intention for us. Gods desire is that we mature into Christ because He’s the perfect blend of humanity and divinity and that’s what He demonstrated, so that we could operate at that level also. There are however, a lot of new births that have stayed babies.

One of the reasons why people get easily deceived or sucked into one doctrine or the other is because they are immature…oops! To be immature is to possess the characteristics of a child. As a child it is anticipated but when one grows into adulthood staying immature is a cause for concern.  We have to attain maturity in God in order to avoid deceit or manipulation and most importantly live in the full and complete order of God. The important thing to note here is that it is a continuous process; we have to keep growing until we start becoming more and more like Christ.

1Peter 2:1 says

“…Like newborn babies, you must crave pure spiritual milk so that you will grow into a full experience of salvation. Cry out for this nourishment now that you have had a taste of the Lord’s kindness.”

The bible recognizes that we start out as babies and we are to crave pure spiritual milk so we can grow into the full experience. Well, the milk which is the rich word of God should nourish you and build you up. Thus your desire for Gods word should increase in order to fully enjoy your walk with God. Now, here is the issue. Christians love being babied. While milk is good for nourishment, we need to mature into stronger and deeper things in God. We have to move from one level to the other. It is a continuous building and a movement into Gods divine design. In fact, if you’re not growing to need strong meat, then there is either something wrong with the milk (the word you’re hearing –deceptive word) or something is wrong with the baby (your understanding of the word). It has to be a growing word in order for you to be Godly productive. If it doesn’t propel spiritual growth then its a deceptive word, and because a lot of people don’t know the word of God they get tricked by stuff that’s not even God and then begin to question a real move of God.

1Corinthians 3:1-3;

Brothers and sisters, I could not address you as people who live by the Spirit but as people who are still worldly—mere infants in Christ.  I gave you milk, not SOLID FOOD, for you were not yet ready for it. Indeed, you are still not ready. You are still worldly. For since there is jealousy and quarrelling among you, are you not worldly? Are you not acting like mere humans?”

Now when a child has grown physically it cannot depend on milk anymore for sustenance. It needs something much more nourishing and strengthening. One cannot keep crawling for life. Neither can one drink milk for sustenance all their life. At some point the person will grow and start needing strong meat. So, while infancy in Christ is a thing, God doesn’t expect us to REMAIN infants. We have to mature and demand Strong food (deeper insights / understanding of the word). It’s not only for pastors! You have to GROW UP in God. We are on a journey with God and we cant get to the next phase without the faith necessary to handle it.

Hebrews 5:12-14

“For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the first principles of the oracles of God; and you have come to need milk and not solid food.  For everyone who partakes only of milk is unskilled in the word of righteousnessfor he is a babeBut solid food belongs to those who are of full age, that is, those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil”

This means that strong meat is for “those” who are growing in their spirit, morals, and character to a place of completion. Maturity is where you exercise and practice what you hear. That’s maturity. Moving from the point of not just being taught the word but being a doer of the word. You practice what you need to practice to get to where God has called you. Start taking strategic steps and making conscious effort to stop saying certain things or doing certain things with the help of the Holy Spirit. Be consistent in your walk with God. You exercise what you become and whatever you are exercising is what you’re going to see when you look in the mirror.

It really is like working out, think about it, isn’t it amazing how our physical body grows and goes through various changes and even when we notice something we don’t like we do something to fix it by changing our diet or exercising and the result will be evident. Thus, when you stop you know what the repercussions are. Also, those who decide to do nothing about it will keep seeing the image of what they are displeased with. That’s normal.

But then why is it that people neglect their spirit, the VERY ESSENCE OF YOUR BEING. Why do you think that should stay the same?

God made us in his image and likeness; it doesn’t mean our physical body,God is Spirit! That means he created us in THE SAME SPIRITUAL image as He…and He said be fruitful…(Genesis 1:27-28). God is concerned about our ‘spiritual fruitfulness’ (and not our physical) because that’s essentially who we are.  We operate from the inside out and not the other way round. He wants our SPIRITUAL GROWTH!! God communicates to us via our spirit.

What I’m saying is that You CANNOT fulfill the purpose God has for you living on the milk level. Get to the level where you are now able to handle the deep things of God and attain spiritual potency. Graduate from the religious things and start exercising your spirit.  Otherwise you’ll get bored by routine after a while.

Ultimately, God cares about our growth, because He desires that we become more and more like Him and that wont be possible if we live on milk alone.

1Corinthians 13:11

When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child; but when I became a man, I put away childish things…

Put it away…

  1. This article along others really defines this blog (thetruth)… This is a foundational lesson for every Christian.

To GROW might not be a conscious effort, but to come to MATURITY? Is a conscious effort hence, 1peter 2:1 (we must desire it).
    Nice one.
